Do you have an HP Pavillion DV2000/DV4000/DV6000/DV9000 or Compaq Presario and have a problem where the laptop wont boot up or switch on and the screen just stays black, but the lights come on?
This is due to a problem with the graphical processing unit (GPU) not being cooled properly due to
a) bad cooling design from HP and
b) a buildup of dust and possible drying out of thermal paste due to overheating.
The problem here is that the GPU is getting so hot that it partially desolders its self from the motherboard. To fix this problem you need to heat the GPU up to a temperature at which the solder melts and the GPU is resoldered, but without going too hot as to crack the GPU. Then for the heat dissipation to be checked, cleaned and reapplied if neccessary.
I can fix this problem for you just get in touch with me, if you're interested in what it takes to fix this problem then check out the following Youtube video
A video of this process can be found here (youtube).
